Nothing jeopardizes a church like a bad ministry marriage. This workshop is for ministry couples and addresses the losses that are unique to serving in ministry.
Serving God in the local church can bring the greatest joy but also some of the greatest pain. When a couple accepts a call to ministry they lose many things: their privacy, their weekends, possibly one career, usually financial wealth, often closeness to their extended family and much more. But because they are "spiritual" people, they don't often feel the freedom to admit the losses or their pain. And even if they did, who would they share this with? So they suffer in silence and often blame each other, building resentment and undermining the marriage.
This workshop will help the couple to identify their losses, validate them, learn to grieve them together and begin a resolution process...and with God's help...the return of joy. A side benefit is that when done as a group of pastors, the couples grow very close as they find the similar losses that they share in common. So this retreat not only starts the healing process but is the beginning of new friendships.
Note: This retreat can be held for any group of couples, not just those in ministry. Losses are common to every couple.
